Defensive Driving

Defensive driving concentrates on the skills that keep drivers out of developing situations: reading the road early, planning further ahead, managing space and speed, and recognising the conditions in which risk increases. It is delivered on real roads in the vehicle the employee actually uses for work.
What the session includes
Risk and attitude discussion
A short classroom-free briefing on how collisions typically develop.
Observation and planning
Systematic scanning, hazard prioritisation and planning distance.
Space and speed management
Following distance, gap selection and speed appropriate to conditions.
Junctions and roundabouts
Approach, observation and decision-making at higher-risk features.
Action plan
Agreed focus areas for the driver to apply after the session.

Scope
