Post-Incident Driver Assessment
After a collision, employers face a legitimate question: is this person ready to drive for work again? Post-Incident Driver Assessment answers it properly. The session is supportive by design, because many drivers returning after an incident are anxious and confidence forms part of competence. We assess current capability, identify any contributory behaviour, and give managers a clear recommendation with a written rationale.
Support employees returning after collisions or incidents.
- Duration
- 2 hours including debrief
- Delivery format
- On-road, paced to the individual
- What you receive
- Return-to-driving report with recommendation
What this service changes
Suited to
- Employees returning after a collision or near miss
- Drivers returning after long absence or illness
- Insurer or broker-requested assessments
- Cases where a manager needs an objective second view
A supportive, non-punitive return-to-driving assessment that establishes whether an employee is fit to resume driving duties and what support they need to do it safely.
- A documented, objective view of current driving capability
- Identification of any contributory behaviour to address
- Confidence rebuilt through structured, low-pressure practice
- A defensible return-to-duty decision for the employee file
Every session follows the same documented structure
Consistency is what makes the output comparable across a fleet. Two drivers assessed by two different assessors in two different regions are scored the same way.
- 01
Confidential pre-session conversation
A short discussion of the incident and how the driver feels about returning, held in confidence.
- 02
Graduated on-road assessment
The route builds from quiet roads to the conditions the role demands, at a pace the driver can manage.
- 03
Contributory factor analysis
Where relevant, we identify the behaviours or decisions that contributed, without apportioning blame.
- 04
Return-to-driving recommendation
A clear written recommendation: resume duties, resume with development, or defer with a suggested review point.
- 05
Optional follow-up session
A short second session for cases where confidence, rather than competence, is the limiting factor.
From first conversation to evidenced improvement
A repeatable five-stage cycle. Stages one to four typically complete within three weeks of a driver being scheduled; stage five is where measured risk reduction is delivered.

Most clients pair assessment with development. Combining services into one annual programme reduces per-driver cost and gives you a single reporting cycle.
Driver assessment and training form part of a wider fleet risk management strategy alongside vehicle maintenance, journey planning, policy and driver licence checking. Nothing on this page constitutes legal advice.
