Driver Development

Assessment without follow-up rarely changes behaviour. Driver Development takes the categories that scored poorly in the risk assessment and works on them directly, on real roads, in the driver’s own vehicle. Sessions use client-centred coaching rather than instruction: the driver identifies the risk, explains the consequence and commits to the change, which is what makes the change durable.

Targeted coaching following identified risks.

Outcomes

What this service changes

Suited to

  • Drivers classified Medium or High risk
  • Repeat minor-damage claimants
  • Drivers moving from car to van or into a larger vehicle
  • Team leaders responsible for coaching their own drivers

Coaching built from the assessment findings rather than a generic syllabus. Each session addresses the specific behaviours that pushed a driver into Medium or High risk.

  • Measurable movement in the specific competencies that scored poorly
  • Re-scored risk classification after development
  • Documented evidence that identified risk was acted upon
  • Higher driver buy-in than classroom-only training
What’s included

Every session follows the same documented structure

Consistency is what makes the output comparable across a fleet. Two drivers assessed by two different assessors in two different regions are scored the same way.

  1. 01

    Findings review with the driver

The session opens with the assessment report so the driver understands why they are here and what success looks like.

  2. 02

    Targeted on-road coaching

Focused practice on the identified categories: gap selection, forward planning or speed choice on unfamiliar rural roads, for example.

  3. 03

    Client-centred coaching technique

Questioning and self-analysis rather than instruction, which produces durable behaviour change in experienced drivers.

  4. 04

    Re-score and development record

Updated competency scores and a short written record for the driver file, showing the intervention and its result.

Our assessment process

From first conversation to evidenced improvement

A repeatable five-stage cycle. Stages one to four typically complete within three weeks of a driver being scheduled; stage five is where measured risk reduction is delivered.

    Consultation

We review your fleet profile, incident history, telematics data and existing policy to agree scope and priority drivers.

    • Fleet composition, mileage bands and driver roles
    • Claims, incident and telematics review
    • Existing driving-for-work policy gap review
    • Agreed scope, schedule and reporting format

    45–60 minutes, no cost

  2. 02

    Driver Assessment

A 90-minute on-road assessment per driver, in their own work vehicle, from their own base, on a mixed route.

    • Licence and eyesight verification
    • Daily walkaround check observed
    • Urban, rural and high-speed road sections
    • Commentary drive and on-road debrief

    90 minutes per driver

    • Low / Medium / High classification
    • Fleet-level themes and hotspots identified
